Meet Elizabeth

Beyond the title.

Elizabeth Humphreys is an author, mother, nonprofit founder, and nationally recognized caregiver advocate whose understanding of love, loss, and the complicated realities of caregiving was shaped by thirteen years of caring for her mother with early-onset Alzheimer's disease. As founder and Executive Director of the national nonprofit Mind What Matters, Elizabeth has helped hundreds of financially vulnerable caregivers across more than forty-three states access respite care while advocating for greater awareness and mental health support for families navigating Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases. Her work is rooted in the belief that caregivers deserve to be cared for, too.

Her debut memoir, Too Bad About That, will be published by Post Hill Press and distributed by Simon & Schuster on February 23, 2027. Selected for Zibby Owens's Most Anticipated Books of 2027, the book is a candid, often darkly funny account of the years Elizabeth spent caring for her mother, the complicated family dynamics that unfolded along the way, and what happens when loving someone begins to consume your own life. It is as much about the woman who needed care as it is about the daughter trying not to lose herself in the process.

Elizabeth also co-hosts the Mind What Matters podcast, which explores the many dimensions of caregiving, brain health, mental well-being, and the relationships that shape our lives. A frequent speaker on Alzheimer's disease, brain health, and caregiving, she hosts Women's Health Summits across the country focused on healthy aging, menopause, perimenopause, nutrition, caregiving, and mental health. Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Arts from Rhodes College, where she majored in Business Administration, and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Mental Health Counseling, expected in 2027.
